Hydro Excavation
DAYLIGHTING UNDERGROUND UTILITIES
Daylighting is a term referring to physically exposing and verifying the location of underground buried utilities. This one of the most common and widely used functions of hydro excavation. Atlantic Soft Dig uses advanced hydro excavation equipment to break up the ground and the vacuum the soil and debris. The ASD system offers minimal disturbance or damage to the surrounding site and most importantly safely preserves existing underground utilities. During pre-construction services, ASD will use hydro excavation to determine the vertical and horizontal location of underground utilities.
SOIL TRENCHING
Digging trenches with conventional heavy equipment can lead to damage and disturbance to the surrounding worksite area and damage to underground utilities, communication lines, fiber optics, irrigation and other unknown buried obstructions. Hydro excavation is a much more targeted, safe method for soil trenching. This process digs narrow trenches to install pipelines, cables, and other various in-ground utilities. Using hydro excavation for this task ensures that only the area needing excavation is being affected with the precision that only hydrovac units provide. In addition, ASD hydro excavation equipment can reach areas too cumbersome for conventional heavy equipment. Hydro excavation is a more efficient and non-destructive method to soil trench.
DEBRIS REMOVAL
Hydro excavation is also an efficient method to remove debris and clean out structures without affecting surrounding areas or structures. Traditional excavation equipment often needs more room to operate efficiently and often creates more damage to a project area. The boom component on a hydro excavation truck provides the operator with more flexibility and maneuverability for targeted height and depth control. Atlantic Soft Dig’s Hydro excavation equipment can remove debris in both wet and dry forms including rough debris such as rocks and sand.
PILING HOLE EXCAVATION
The precision and targeted control of hydro excavation is not available with conventional heavy equipment or machinery. Very specific diameter and depth holes can be made in various conditions to accomplish unique tasks such as piling holes.
HYDRO VACS
Hydro vacuum excavation equipment offers a more reliable and effective way to excavate as compared to traditional methods of excavation. Manual digging and excavating with conventional heavy equipment is often more risky, less efficient, and time consuming than utilizing hydro excavation. Modern hydro excavation equipment use a combination of high-pressure water and a powerful vacuum to break up the soil and debris on site which can be removed with an integrated debris tank.
SAFE DIGGING
The safety of hydro excavation is its most important feature. Not only the safety of the preserving the integrity of the underground utility, but the safety of the operator and other workers on the job site. Hydro excavation eliminates the use of sharp or metal edges, which are at cause of many of excavation incidents each year. Without these components, hydro excavation trucks and the technique of digging with water and vacuum mitigate the risks of damaging underground utilities. Hydro excavation poses minimal risk of Injury or damage. Water pressure can cut through tough grass and soil while posing minimal risk to operators, other workers and underground utilities. The process exposes wires and pipes by softening and vacuuming up the soil rather than using heavy backhoes or sharp metal equipment to scoop dirt up.
TARGETED EXCAVATION
Hydro excavation is most often completed with a hand held dig wand that is used to break down the soil with water pressure. This precision ensures that the only area of the jobsite being affected by the excavation is the exact site that needs excavating. Conventional excavation equipment often disturbs surrounding jobsite, not just the area being excavated. Hydro excavation requires less labor, backfill and restoration which results in a precise and cost-effective technique.
DIG EFFICIENCY
Hydro excavation is a very low demand on man-power and equipment. Instead of a team of workers utilizing various heavy equipment, the hydro excavation process utilizes specialized advanced tools to dig only in the areas needed with one or two operators. Because less excavated soil is generated, clean-up and restoration of the work area is greatly minimized.
